Does ANYONE pay attention to the fiscally responsible students that actually PAID THEIR WAY as the went along? I didn’t rack up debt, but things were cheaper. My daughter didn’t rack up any debt. My son is budgeting to match his income to outlay for his return to college, yes he IS using his GI bill money that was part of his enlistment “bonus”, but he still EARNED IT!

The trouble with paying as you go along—if you are just starting out, it will take you forever to graduate. Reference the story about the janitor who worked at night and studied during the day. It took him ten years to get his degree and he even got a discount as a college employee.

Tuition and fees increase steadily, while the earning power of the middle class goes down. That is why people borrow money.

Our national debt has just exceeded 100% of GDP. I’m angry at our congress for not thinking that is serious enough to get something done about over spending. All they do is play politics. Look at the post office situation. The post office needs a bailout of how many billions. Some years ago the post office came to Congress saying that they are losing too much money and they need to close some marginal post offices and stop Saturday delivery. Congress said, “Not on my watch you won’t.” You see, these politicians are more interested in getting votes than they are in caring for the country.

If our grads got more technical degrees it would be a win-win.They could find jobs and businesses wouldn’t need to search for qualified candidates over seas.
