It must be wonderful for Mr. Obama that he has reached his goal of having energy prices “skyrocket”. Hey Brutus, I feel your pain!

Don’t forget the insurance. Even if you aren’t required to have it, when you don’t have a mortgage, if a disaster strikes, you’ll wish you had it.

Let’s talk about tax inequity. I moved due to job change, and rent out the home I own in one county (MS). The taxes on it are the same without homestead exemption as they are in the county I now live in with homestead…no way to win.

Property tax is why you can’t really own your land, your basically renting it from the government. If you fail to pay your “rent” they will evict you.

More and more financial advisers and experts seem to (imo) be extolling the benefits of renting over owning, especially in our current financial environment.

I’ve been a homeowner and a renter and I gotta say, I don’t think I’ll ever buy again. I like having the freedom to move to whatever neighborhood and town I feel like it when my lease is up and I love having to not have to worry about hiring plumbers, landscapers, and repair people when something goes wrong. Also, I don’t have to buy appliances!!! But every person and their goals are unique so I wouldn’t rule out home ownership for everyone.

Omaha, NE is a STOOOOOPID place in which to reside. My $428 in MO would be over $2800 per year there.
