Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you droutma! A rare breed indeed who seems to not care much about spending $50 for a lightbulb or who loves to see the Obamacare swindle double it’s projected cost! Wow! I wish I had the money he must have if it doesn’t seem to phase him.
The lightbulb argument is a stupid one. Yeah, at the register you’ll pay more, but they use less electricity, and last much longer. Its called the big picture CONservatives, look at it sometime
Of course a government that carries a $15 trillion debt and is currently adding to it at $1 trillion a year thinks this is chump change. I seriously doubt even 1% of the 1% have every even laid eyes on that much money.
I’ve never seen a $50 light bulb.I have 3 GE bulbs that cost $9 each 20 years ago.The newer ones were $20 for 6.But hey, don’t let facts sway your opinion.
And the CBO report showing $1.762T as “gross cost” for 11 years of Obamacare: http://cbo.gov/publication/43076You have to look at the pdf report linked on that page. They do show a net cost of “only” $1.252T after lots of penalty payments, targeted taxes and “other”, but Lisa’s figure is correct, as is her point.
It’s about government tinkering with the free market. Our current elected officials seem to think that they know best how to manage our lives… better than we serfs do! I’m just angry that no-one bothered to listen to the people (like me) who said of the healthcare plan costs “If anyone believes this number is going to hold, you’re high.” Hate to say it, but I told you so.
Big Brother Government tried to take our choice away with the $50 light bulb, which is TOXIC WASTE when needing to be discarded. We already had the choice of alternate light bulbs that were advertised to burn longer, without the Toxicity.-on Obamacare, written behind closed doors with no “transparency”….numbers were fudged and twisted to claim the estimated cost when it was bulldozed through Congress’ vote. Now the CBO has “re-caculated” and the cost is DOUBLED. THAT is the problem with Control Freaks who gain power and use it opposite of campaign rhetoric!-
I checked the Washington Post source for that “$50 bulb.” Turns out I already own about ten of them, Phillips LEDs, they’re great bulbs. Slight delay when turning on, but nice light spectrum, and use very little electricity. And they cost me less than $20 each, and save me several hundred over their life in electricty and replacement costs. I’m not sure where WP got its numbers, but they need to send a reporter to Home Depot.
My first hand held calculator just did four basic functions, and cost $120. Today, a “scientific” calculator can be had for $4. LEDs are “new” technology to the market, and cost WILL come down. Fuels to generate electricity ARE finite, and costs WILL go UP! Conservation, including new tech, IS the ONLY long-term answer.
Harley there is nothing there at your link.I should have said that I bought 4 GE Compax bulbs (13 watt) in 1990 and one burned out after 15 years. I leave one on every night, maybe not the same one, for 22 years.I think I got my money’s worth.
The dangerous thing about a $50 light bulb. Nothing wrong with that at all. Buy it if you want. BUT, when they start outlawing the current light bulbs and ALL you have LEFT are the $50 lightbulbs, well NOW we have a problem…
SkepticCal….Amen.do any of these PRO-Government-controlling-businessesposters realize that no innovation or technology is created or produced by “government” but is merely SUBSIDIZED BY TAXPAYER REVENUES AND BORROWED BILLIONS/$..??-The innovation and new technologies come from PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES….
I’m pretty tight with a buck, so I’ve never paid $50 for a light bulb. The only times I’ve paid over $5 was to replace some wierdo bulbs that were installed in a “designer” bathroom. I have almost all CFL bulbs and never paid over $3 for any of them. They use less electricity and last a lot longer than the old incandescent bulbs. Do we need to conserve energy as a society priority? Yes. We should also have universal health care, and we have made major strides to improve health care for everyone except big insurance companies. Bottom line: Lisa is wrong AND misleading again.
so many posters support federal-national “health care” (socialism in action) that it seems to prove the FAILURE of the USA “liberal” education system controlled by government propagandists/teacher union propagandists….really “1984”!
Are you that uninformed? Lisa has inflated the cost of CCFLs by a factor of 5-10. At Costco the 100 watt equivalent CCFL costs $12 for a package of three, at the supermarket it’s a bit higher – $8 each.
I can honestly say I disagree with the $50 light bulb. It is kind of unrealistic. But the CBO cost is still problematic. Those of you who believe “universal healthcare is a right,” are ignoring one major point: Most Americans don’t want it! The more we have found out about it, and its costs, and its requirements, the more we can’t stand it and want it removed. It was unpopular when it passed and is more unpopular now, especially now that we know we were lied to about the cost. Universal Heatlh Care a) isn’t a right and b) isn’t what’s right for the US. Because your right to “free health care,” is impugning on my right of liberty and my pursuit of happiness. Which one is enumerated in the US Constitution? I can promise you that yours isn’t and mine is. Because something free for you COSTS ME MONEY in the form of higher taxes and lower wages (because more taxation on corporations).

Yep, Lisa lies on both sides of the cartoon.

You beat me to it, ARodney. And a few of the commenters are apparently dumb enough to believe her lies.

That $59 light bulb is a red herring if I ever saw one. Have you been to the store lately? Oh, of course not. You send someone to do that for you.
