A couple years ago the History Channel showed,‘The Crumbling Infrastructure of America’ which stated,“…we are about $1 Trillion and 30-40 years behind on infrastructure upkeep/maintanence.” Newsflash: this ain’t just Obama’s doings! All congressmembers and presidents have been allowing the debt to build while ignoring the necessities for years! They should ALL have some of their respective salaries and retirement benefits garnished as a penalty for ‘negligence of duty’!Also; apply a 50% tax rate for all PACs and SUPERPACs.I’d add a political statement in response to above: the defective ‘tools’ Obama has had to work with has been congress!
It simply was over three decades of “conservatism” and tax cuts that led to the collapse of our infrastructure across the nation. Benign neglect wasn’t actually benign at all. Amazing that it was despite the fact it was a true “conservative” who BUILT the infrastructure. Which is why, “republican” (lower case) and TEApublican are more accurate address for the current “party”. “Conservative” did NOT always mean letting all others suffer for the arrogance of the rich, and the ignorance of those supporting their lifestyles, against the best interests of the majority.
Fixing the infrastructure that is (admittedly) wearing out is not the magic bullet that everyone claims to be the case. Also, having bumpy roads is not something that endangers people. There’s also one issue that’s being missed: The infrastructure that is being harped on is 90% state-based issues. Federal government has no place in these infrastructure projects. There’s no reason why I should have to pay for someone’s bridge in California because they can’t balance their books. I shouldn’t have to pay for the electrical grid in Florida because they are too weak in the knees to stand up and prioritize their budgets and get it under control. And Mendojoe, you are missing the point. You say conservatives should “get off their collective asses and help,” when you are ignoring the fact that we are saying “everyone needs to get off their collective asses and help themselves.” Self-reliance is being stripped away from working-class America because of all the government subsidy programs that are out there.
Wraithkin, what do you NOT understand about “interstate” highway systems and electrical grids?? Oh, right you understand NOTHING about how systems work. Right, don’t pay for that bridge in California that’s needed to get get your products, like well, medicine, or your car, from one state to another. Also, almost no electrical systems are intra-state systems.
My step-dad spent 6 years painting the lines on massachusettes highways. Thats all. 6 years in a state the size of massachusettes, imagine how long he would be working if he did that in a state like new york, or california. Right now he got a job building a school, and when he’s done, he’s gonna build another one. You see, if you invest in infrastructure, it puts people to work.
The only thing wrong with this picture is that Obama isn’t creating the false picture, but rather the people who’ve been hyping this sock-puppet—namely 90% of the so-called “news” media. Obama has over a billion dollars to spend on smearing the GOP nominee, but he really doesn’t need to. The White House will release their talking points, and the media will simply parrot them. Four years ago there was a budget deficit crisis, and now they don’t even bother submitting a budget anymore. Four years ago there was a national debt crisis, and now, after spending at a rate where he’ll triple the debt if he’s given a second term, the “crisis” has magically disappeared. Everything that was wrong with Bush’s administration is still firmly in place under Obama’s, but now all of those terrible things are warm, fuzzy puppies and kittens. Obama has nothing to do with these false perceptions. It’s solely due to a sold-out, corrupt media.
What I LOVE about the “right-wing” interpretation of the Constitution is they’ve never bothered to read either the document, or any SCOTUS decisions over the last two plus centuries! Don’t worry, they’ve got it on the word of Rush Dimbulb and Glenn Peckerwood.

Ad Hominem – Typical liberal tactic when it becomes apparent that their own policies are bankrupt and their arguments are invalid or inept.
