Macushlalondra asked about 6 hours ago

    “Why’d you marry him then?”

Probably because SHE had a weird (or weak) moment? [Hey! It happens in the BEST of families!]

I believe there have been studies to why time seems to slow down when we are in danger or frightened. I found this quote from the following link http://www.livescience.com/health/071211-time-slow.html :

“When a person is scared, a brain area called the amygdala becomes more active, laying down an extra set of memories that go along with those normally taken care of by other parts of the brain.

“In this way, frightening events are associated with richer and denser memories,” Eagleman explained. “And the more memory you have of an event, the longer you believe it took.” ”

If I recall, on Discovery, they were able to prove that when is scared, the ‘refresh rate’ of the eye is increased so more is seem in the same amount of time. That sort of goes with the qoute.

But then again, I’m weird. :)

Adam’s nose gets larger and larger with this current artist. He’s made him look like a clown.

I’m glad Adam is OK. It’s my favorite comic these days.

I like Adam’s line about how time slows down when your fingers are caught in a car door.

I’m wonder if Einstein could explain that.

Guaranteed those few seconds take a long time. It’s amazing what you think about on the way down!

OK, Adam is not the only weird thing around here today. Maybe the third time’s a charm…? Once AGAIN…the above quote was spoken by the character Lydia Deets in the movie “Beatlejuice” (Sheesh, it wasn’t THAT wonderful, but I’m mad now).

I’ve also experienced the slowdown effect, when I fell off of a pony. I felt like I was moving in molassas.

I fell off a telephone pole once (from the top) and didn’t have time to think of ANYTHING - one moment I was working and the next I was on the ground, thinking “what the h*ll?”. Luckily the pole was in soft earth, NOT concrete. Happens so fast…

The only time I might have experienced this effect (I’ve been lucky that way) was when I was a young and brash teenager. We had a Shetland pony at the time that refused to allow anyone but my handicapped sister on her back, and I decided one afternoon that this was ridiculous and come hell or high water I was going to break her. Well, she bucked me off in about two seconds, but, being a teenager, I got back on. She bucked me off again, in about the same amount of time (man, was she a wild one when she wanted to be!) and my head landed near a large rock. I decided not to try my luck a third time and abandoned her to her amusements.

Anyway, the point is, I didn’t experience any time dilation. To my point of view, I was on her back, I was on the ground. I never, ever, recalled being in the air. Anyone else who’s been bucked–was this your experience, too?
