I’m sorry, neither of them should have been allowed by their parents to get driver’s licenses without knowing how to change a tire and jump a battery. My kids aren’t even drivers, and they know these things! Besides, your degree has nothing to do with common sense. I have a Medieval Studies degree, and I can change a tire, jump a battery, replace a broken headlight, check the brake fluid and oil- all basic stuff! What is wrong with these kids? Get up and give it a shot!

English degree and biology degree? Sounds like those useless & brainless UC Cal graduate hikers that were rescued in Iran.

I have a biology degree and I know how to change a tire.I’ve never had to actually change one. The two times I’ve had a flat tire, there was some man around who more of less shoved the" little woman" aside and went all macho and changed the tire. One was an Air force recruiter who had no idea HOW to change a tire, so I told him what to do and he supplied the muscle.

What’s really sad is most car instruction booklets give the diagram of where the jack should be placed, and step by step instructions on how to change a tire. Some cars have specific spots that the jack needs to be placed…start digging that jack and tire out of the trunk!

Ah, but how many of you have put chains on in blowing snow? (Which I sincerely hope I never have to do again.)

I am embarrassed to admit, last flat I had, I didn’t have the strength to break the bolts loose. I had to wait until I got help. I felt better when the guy couldn’t do it either. It took both of us cranking down to get those bolts loose. So glad no-one took pictures, as I was getting physically very close with a complete stranger!

i have to admit i wouldn’t know what to do. i mean i think i’d try to fake it, but i know you have to jack correctly or it’ll fall off, and i dont’ know how to do that. And that you need to tighten the lugs in the right way and order – i heard that from a mechanic once, but i don’t remember the details

Even worse, they have a jack at the bottom of the trunk. They are just too lazy to unpack the trunk to get it out.
