It is sad to see this continued bias against the single most accessible and current source of detailed scientific and technical information available to most people.

Wikipedia does (for the most part) cite references, so those references would be fair game to use for a research paper.

Geez, you guys act like I said that Wikipedia is evil or isn’t accurate or whatever. Read it again. All the teacher said was that you can’t cite it as a reference. And you can’t, in a research paper. It’s okay. Everybody breathe.

Hey, ODDBALL… nice catch on the hairline. I didn’t know if anyone would give that a glance.

Has everybody over 30 forgotten that when they came through school, the standard instruction was that when writing a research paper, you may not cite an encyclopedia (Britannica, World Book) as a reference? I don’t see it as bias against Wikipedia so much as an acknowledgment that it is replacing traditional encyclopedias as the go-to source for quick information.

I may swipe ODDBALL’s avatar when he’s done with it. I hadn’t realized that I liked that illustration so much, even with the ego I’ve got. Number 3 probably knew it was cute.

Why can’t you site Wikepedia or those others as a reference? Should be okay as long as you have a second source book, website, etc.) to back up the information

Wiki evil? But it has links and stuff! Besides, almost every time I search for something on my phone, its Wiki that comes up. But I do remember high school and the admonishment to not use the encyclopedia as a reference. Which drove me crazy..Where were we to get our facts and figures? Thin air?
