Yeah, but it doesn’t count when you save it from yourself…

Er, in 5th grade I was taught that McCarthy saved the universe. In the 60s as an undergrad they changed the story.

@lewreader — McCarthy was a disgrace to our nation’s spirit of free expression and free speech. He sowed hatred, fear, and paranoia. He accomplished nothing good, in my book.

I must agree that his lies ruined a lot of people but woke America up to the fact we had thousands of op[en and closet sympathisers of the nation that would put nuclear weapons 90 miles from us, bang their shoe at the United Nations, and vow to bury us.Terrorist/smerroists. The nuclear threat was very real. Berlin, Warsaw, Poland? How many times did we come within a hair’s breath of world annihilation.McCarthy lied. No doubt. Did you pick up todays NYT or Washington Post. I’m sure if the WSJ were published on the weekend they might tell a few less than honest tales. There might be a few politicians you may not trust with your whole heart. What was the first thing they put after the main body of the Constitution to convince wary delegates to sign? Not many places in the world have that wonderful right. Today people in foreign lands were probably gunned down trying to gain that right. Hell, even a right wing nut like me wishes I still drank when I listen to a couple of GOP women, but by God, they have the right.Any vet will tell you the reason they went was to defend Freedom of Speech. You want to conficate phones, Internet, and postage stamps. The dirty bearded man with the sign that says “Impeach Earl Warren” has the right. I’ll probably give him a buck or two for the bottle he desperately needs.
