    Why does Calvin always regard St. Nicholas as merely an ordinary human being? He never seems to take into account the way that St. Nicholas, his elves, reindeer, etc. actually work: by magic. The source of this magic is anyone who believes in peace on Earth and good will to men (I believe this should be changed to ‘good will to life’).
