It took me a while to realize that the aliens are supposed to be us humans. I have no trouble believing this is what some of us would do if we could reach other planets. After all, we’ve already pretty much done it to our own, destroying the air and the water and whatnot for the sake of expanding business.

The poem is amusing, and the message unmistakable. but I still can’t help feeling this owes more than a little to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
