Was “hitting rocks” a thing (or a fad) in the ‘80s? Obviously it’s easy enough to figure out what Mom meant by that phrase just based on the scenery, but it just seems like a weird way for her to describe it. “Hitting rocks with a bat in the house” would seem more likely to me.
