Opening the reserve is stupid, just as stupid as when all the Republicans were demanding it- before it happened and they now oppose it. We still have the cheapest gasoline in the “industrialized” world. The cheap prices in monarchies or “socialist” countries sitting on huge oil reservoirs can’t really be counted.
6/24 article at realclearpolitics.com by Larry Kudlow “Did the IEA Just Deliver a QE3 Quick Fix?”and the answer is Obama agreed (or suggested the plan?) to supply HALF of the quota of reserves….30 million bbls….from a US “strategic” Reserve for POLITICAL PURPOSES….there is currently a “glut” of crude on the market and the lowered exports of Libya were not causing “world economic collapse”!
the reserved oil is for extreme emergencies only and this is not appropriate and should be treated IMO as a violation of law.
I have just a minute to reply to the remark by Putzhill (a.k.a. churchillwasright) of 6/24:1.President Obama’s stimulus has saved or created at least 2.5 million jobs: http://www.politifact.com/virginia/statements/2011/jun/03/eric-cantor/cantor-says-stimulus-failed-get-people-back-work/2.After voting for Bush-Dick in 2004 and for McCain-Palin in 2008, Putzhill thinks that Representative Bachmann would make a better president than Obama. This speaks strongly to his political acumen.3.Putzhill has no knowledge of history, and while touting Winston Churchill in his moniker, maligns him by claiming that anyone who does not subscribe to the quote NOT from Churchill is a “mental misfit”. When Churchill was 35, he was a liberal.4.Most of Putzhill’s statistics in the rest of his remark prevaricate & equivocate, but I can point out more of that later. Must run. I have just bought a house, and the movers are due tomorrow.
Tig, notice I SAID it was stupid, and my greatest disappointment is all the scrambling Pelosi, Reid, and Obama have done to “out conservative” the “conservatives”. But in the real world, of politics, everyone’s going for the emotional draw instead of the facts, in both parties now. Popeye submitting to Bluto.

I don’t think using .04% of our petroleum reserve is the same as printing money (quantatative easing).

By inserting some uncertainty into the speculator’s world, rampant speculation is tempered. Long run – probably won’t make much difference.

Then don’t complain when it goes back up.
