They have to cave — their business owners don’t really want U.S. to default on its obligations. But maybe if they pretend they’re screaming toddlers, the Democrats will give them what they want, which is mostly to not be the only party trying to kill Medicare.

Many Republicans say that allowing the United States to default on its debts wouldn’t be a big deal. Considering that they’re the party that got us into this mess in the first place, I’m not sure we should be taking fiscal advice from them.

The deficit and debt ceiling didn’t matter under Reagan, Bush 41 and 43, but now it is the way to discredit Obama so the Repubs are willing to destroy the country over it.

That’s why there is so much “buyers remorse” about the 2010 election now. The newbies got elected to create jobs, instead they go after social programs and tax pensioners…The ol’ bait and switch….Republicans always overplay their hand…Democrats always underplay theirs…

The toon has the elephant blowing up the base, which is holding up the ceiling.Which is what would happen if we were to go into default.

Bruce, the problem is that NO AMOUNT of cutting government can fix the problem if the Repubiicans insist that you can’t raise taxes. There is no math that works. Even the Ryan plan, which destroys Medicare (the most successful and efficient health insurance plan in America), calls for six TRILLION dollars of more deficit in the next ten years. Now, why is it we can’t raise the debt limit?

Tax raising is not popular with anyone. Why should a conservative pay for all these Democrat entitlements anyway? We are simply headed to the abyss where Greece, Spain, and Ireland are falling into. We have the Dems to thank for this mess, and it didn’t just start with Bush.
