The US Republican party’s fierce opposition to Heathcare reform in the US stems from fear of its reform, hence hiding in the attic like Falcon Heene did. Is it about the only ‘toon who has taken the helium balloon theme and twisted it around to mock the Republicans? All others with the theme seem to be mocking liberal positions/politicians.

No, there was another that had GOP on the balloon as it crashed to the ground. Can’t remember which one.

here’s why it seems muddled to me: the balloon is labeled Healthcare Reform, which could be interpreted to mean it’s a hoax, as some other toons have done. The little boy hiding in the attic wasn’t there because of fear, as we now know, but because he was part of the hoax.

The message the cartoonist means, I think, is only clear if we believe the whole thing wasn’t a hoax and the child was hiding from fear. make sense?

^ Hmmm, I see your point. I interpreted fear because of the big round eyes the elephant has.
