Fizzies were flavored tablets you dropped in water so you can drink instant soda.

These were a product of the early 60’s. Fizzies turned a glass of water into a (pseudo) soda. These little tablets looked like Alka-Seltzer and came on a foil bubble pack in various flavors - Root Beer was my favorite! The big dare was to place one on your tongue and then take a mouthful of water…foam-a-rama!

As I recall they contained an artificial sweetener which was later removed from the market. That was about the end of them until they resurfaced in the 90’s - and promptly slipped back into obscurity.

In 2006 Fizzies came back on the market. They were even featured on the Food Channel’s Unwrapped series. If you’re curious (or nostalgic) the are easily found on the web.

Geez I’m a geezer - I love Red & Rover for all the accurate memories and impressions it invokes…right down to the 1960’s style Cub Scout uniform Red has worn from time to time!

    Thank you Brian!

I go Pogo too! ;) Although I was born too late for the ’60s, I love the Red & Rover references also. Wish I had the memories to go with them.

The commercials started out with “it’s a happy Fizzies party!” Root beer was my favorite too and I was drinking it back in the late 50’s when it first came out.
