Well, I missed throwing out my GOOD MORNING this morning, but I am back for another look, even though I was told I did not ever do that. So now, GOOD EVENING to all. Happy Friday. Enjoy your weekend everyone.
Isn’t all the CHAT CHAT CHAT CHAT stuff lowering one’s self to gmartin’s level? If you aver this is a room where one can speak freely…well, it should be freely for all! Pettiness doesn’t seem to fit the normal commentary’s tenor. All posters may not agree - I value “Sherman’s Lagoon” and “Pearls” much more highly for example - but the commentary is more enjoyable without the lowering of the tone. Happy 18th of July all.
I don’t believe anyone is being lowered or elevated to another level, we’re just having fun. Gmartin has as much right to his views as everyone else and has made some really good comments. I believe he was just bustin’ our chops and not meaning to be abusive. An unknown can appear crude until they are accepted amongst others. Many of us are just cruising thru and letting others know we made an appearance. This is for commenting about toons and enjoying the observations of others. Nobody is being forced to agree with or read the comments. On gocomics, I have a list of favorite comics that show toons without comments should I not want to be distracted by them.
Once again, Rad, you have said it well. I am just having fun. gmartin certainly may say anything he wants, and he may say it directly toward me. I have no problem engaging in dialogue with anyone. My comments certainly should be construed as childish. I meant them to be that way. That’s part of the fun. If I have offended anyone, I do apologize. Please just laugh it off and carry on. Furthermore, we should all feel free to ignore whatever we choose.
On another note (the following is a comment on this comic), I love Overboard. Taken at face value much of it is ridiculous. Sea monsters that sit and CHAT with the crew? Disproportionally sized rabbits who also talk? I won’t even start on the mice. Exaggeration is a key to this type of comedy. Likewise, sarcasm and wisecracks are, I believe, fitting in this type of comment board, as are friendly salutations to one’s friends.
How can you not smile when you read Overboard? It’s as good in its own way as Pearls or Far Side or Calvin and Hobbes or even Peanuts ever was, and yes, I’m including Opus in all his incarnations and Doonesbury back when it was funny in the 1970s. I can’t wait for Louie to do something that I expect him to do, but in such an endearing way that it is blindingly obvious, yet never patronizing. And yes, Pearls is my current favorite, only because the Rat is in charge there, and the Mice seem not to have completely taken over here yet!
