Backbone? How about Daddy stays out of it since Mommy was overreacting to a situation she caused in the first place by not paying attention to what her daughter was telling her – that she just needed a few more uninterrupted minutes to finish so she could go down and enjoy dinner.

Way to make a psychodrama out of nothing, there, Ellie.

I’m afraid canarynoir is way off base on this. Parents work as partners in parenting. The father was supporting the mother. The daughter would have done better by not overreacting to her mother. The daughter was being rude and disrespectful. It is no psychodrama.

You tell ‘em, westiewestaz! If the mother and daughter were both rude, then it’s not a misunderstanding; it’s entirely the daughter’s fault. After all, she’s younger!

Well, tobybartels, in rereading, I don’t see that Mom was rude at all. Yes, the daughter was rude and disrespectful with her response in this situation. Her age has nothing to do with it. She could have been anywhere from toddler to young adult. And there are some adults who are as rude and disrespectful as the daughter was in this situation. Some people seem to think they don’t have to answer to anyone and that it is okay to say anything they want, to whomever they want, whenever they want. They either haven’t been brought up in a respectful environment or they’re one of those people who thinks life owes them - not sure what.

By the way, did you really read the last few remarks the daughter made? At that time, she is showing maturity and respect. And Mom’s response is normal, as she realizes that in the foreseable future, daughter will be grown and gone, and that she has just apologized from her heart. This mother and daughter love each other.
