And how would / do you interpret the cartoon?

I see the podium finish (overflowing ballot box with red crosses on ballots) after the German elections, with victor, Angela Merkel, leader of the CDU with the 3rd placed, but pleased, Guido Westerwelle from the FDP since it will be in coalition with the CDU and likely means he becomes Germany’s foreign minister; while 2nd placed Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the SPD is rendered speechless since its previous coalition with the CDU is now unnecessary…(although if he is now in official opposition he isn’t really speechless! Just no longer in government).

The CDU (black & orange) is a conservative party. (centre-right) The FDP (yellow & blue) is a liberal, free market party (right) The SPD (red) is a socialist party (centre-left)

Do their expressions mean something? Merkel looks er… non-pulsed despite being the victor? Her usual expression imho. Steinmeier looks upset, as well he should be. Westerwelle looks chuffed. Sure he does!
