The scissors part is unavoidable, but the last bit could use some tweaking. Try "while Paige was sorting flash cards" or "while Paige was changing the Mozart CD." If your mother finds out I fell asleep on the job, she'll be really, really angry with me. Katherine: Like this! Paige: Exactly. Just like that. Katherine: Mommy, Katie got scissors while Paige flashing Mozart!
