Yes indeed, another Austrian view point. They were right in there pushing hard with the Nazi’s during WWII … but did they ever sequeal “neutral” at the end with the Russian Army on the door stoop.

Harley - Lets meet back here in 8 years during the first Palin administration. We’ll laugh at how afraid you were of how Obama was going to enslave America, make us all poor and give everything away to all the people you hate and mistrust. And then I’ll tell you what a nut Palin is and how she’s selling us out to big business and industry.

Humphries: I sense unresolved issues with the Austrians. I mean, it has been 64 years since VE. Oliver Schopf, the cartoonist, was born in 1960.

While it is the general view that Austrians keep claiming victimhood (because of ‘38’s Anschluss with Germany) I get mixed responses from the Austrians themselves. The student crowd in Vienna with whom I used to chat with, were mostly dismissive of the victimhood stance and openly declared they, as in historically, were as guilty as the Germans. Anschluss in German means union or unification, not annexation (Annektierung). My wife, in particular, was brought up being taught of the Holocaust with a couple of school visits to Mauthausen which speaks of Austria’s complicity, and which is now taught in Austrian schoolbooks too, according to a schoolteacher friend of ours. More recently, Austrians have been more critical of those, typically much older folks, who bristle at the thought they were associated with the Nazis; and are coming to terms of their involvement. The recent jailing of David Irving for being a Holocaust denier (which I was against since I’m for freespeech) and the unveiling of the Judenplatz Holocaust Memorial in Vienna about 10 years ago shows that they are making some steps to address this failure.

So, careful with that rather large tar brush you have in your hand.

Meanwhile the cartoon itself… Looks like it is commentating that Obama is cleaning up the US’s image after the mess George W Bush made of it within the UN these past 8 years. But, in the background are the two loonytunes messing it all up again.

Obama is not only trying to woo back support for the UN from Americans but also appealing to the world that the US’s official view of the UN has changed; but that these two nutters are ruining it for all of us, including Americans, by trashing the UN’s image.

    A fair comment.
