Sowell points out that the wealth is still primarily in the hands of the old, yet they get senior discounts. We like to talk about poor little grannys, but I don’t see so many young guys driving those BIG Mercedes Benzes. Irony to be sure.

It doesn’t mean there aren’t poor old people, but generally, if people are industrious, they acquire wealth over their lifetime. I am worth more than I was 10 years ago – hopefully in 10 years I’ll be a little further ahead (assuming I don’t get taxed into poverty). Ants save and grasshoppers play – it’s an old tale. Sowell is one of the great thinkers of our time – history will bear that out. Few have written so much or so well on topics of race and culture. And, his understanding of economics is solid. If you can’t understand his writing, it’s probably an indicator that you should have paid a bit more attention in school. He at least understands the concept of cause and effect, which goes completely over the heads of the anointed. Stick with the socialist pabulum, it requires less thought.

fennec You’re right – not my area of expertise, though somehow I was able to spawn some productive offspring that are net producers for our society – these days, evidently, that’s something to crow about. They will undoubtedly be contributing to your retirement, and medical welfare as well as to the bills we are racking up at an alarming rate (don’t worry, I fault Bush and the Reps as much for starting it, but Obama for not doing anything to stem the tide).
