For the first time since he debuted in Peanuts as “the World War I Flying Ace” (October 10, 1965), Snoopy again refers to himself as an Ace. In the strips since that time Snoopy was a “World War I Pilot” or “…Fighter Pilot.”

Actually, you used to get the “ace” title after some successful missions: I guess that in those months Snoopy earned it.

By becoming such a varied and interesting and endearing character; Snoopy has now become the best comic strip personality in history, up till this time. Schulz admitted that Snoopy almost took over the strip, had Schulz not prevented it.
