I’ve had similar things said by co-workers. When they want you to break a rule you’re “loved by the boss, and could never be fired”. When you decline, they respond with “you think you’re special? You could be fired in a second”. Which is it?
I once asked for a raise, and instead got a lecture on budgeting. I went and got a 2nd part time job, and got another lecture about time management and loyalty. I was a full time manager at a restaurant, and the 2nd part time job was as a cook for a pizza place. Then they wondered why I had “anger issues”…

Try working in IT. When things are working smoothly it’s ‘What do I even pay you for?’ But when things break, it’s ‘What do I even pay you for?’
