I was dogsitting a friend’s dog a while back, and the doggie was lying on the rug in the living room (pointed toward the door) and looking pathetic. I made the requisite “Oh, poor doggie” noises and went over to give her a pat. I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but her face got even sadder — and at the same moment, her tail started its happy wag. Oh, yeah, she was mugging for attention. The tail was a dead giveaway. The mutt!
