Indeed, lightenup. Any fashion consultant will tell you that white is the absolute WORST neutral color to wear if you’re trying to flatter your build, since it does the exact opposite of what the darker colors are supposed to do, i.e., it magnifies your flaws instead of minimizing them.
At least Cathy’s astute enough to grasp that idea. Would that she were also astute enough to simply turn around and march out of the store altogether.

I just buy the colors that flatter me and ignore the rest. As long as you feel good and are confident, you’ll look great.
She’s just talking about what the trendy neutral color is for this season. She did talk about red as well.
