Hurray for memory loss! Besides, she’s married, she can let herself go. It will catch up with Irving someday too, heh heh heh!

It would be great if Cathy finally accepted herself as she is and started enjoying life rather than obsessing over food and clothes.

Susan 001, you are absolutely right! One of the reasons that women are so uncomfortable with themselves is that the media portrays an unhelthy image of beauty not only through advertisemesnts, but also through our worhsip of paper thin celebrities, and our ridicule of fat people, sometime to their very face!! If you don’t beleive me, think of the number of young girls who fall victim to annorexia and bullimia each year; the number are devastating.

Men are affected too: If a man is not tall, athletic, or muscular he is considered worthless by the media.

You’re right JmcaRice and Susan, it’s a shame that the media preys on people’s insecurities, and then gyms, food companies, and the cosmetic industry profit from them. The worst part is most people never can look the way the media tells us we should, and we wouldn’t even want to if unrealistic expectations of beauty weren’t shoved in our faces all the time.

Personally, JmcaRice, I don’t care for the big athletic types. Jocks annoy me, since I hate sports. And “tall” is subjective. I’m 4’ 9” so almost all guys are “tall” to me.

As for girls who want to be skinny as toothpicks, they have my pity. The saddest thing is studies have shown guys prefer girls who are more “average” weight-somewhere in between pudgy and super model skinny.

Way to go Cathy on not stressing about diets anymore.

AZprairiedog, answer me this: Why is when a woman is fat, she is ugly and unlovable, while if it is a man, it’s considered “more to love”?

Does anyone need any more evidence that DIETING MAKES PEOPLE FAT! I know from personal experience that every successful weight loss regimen has (in the long term) meant an additional 20 lb weight gain. Like many Americans, I have DIETED myself to my current obese state. I can’t afford to try to lose weight again, because another 20 lb gain would probably kill me. Does anyone honestly believe that obese people WANT to be overweight or are having fun being treated like dirt by “normal-sized” people? Or that carrying around 100 extra #s everywhere we go is enjoyable? Hey skinny folks, try carrying around an 80# bag of dog food strapped to your waist all day, then see if YOU feel like exercising after work. Try living in a world where chairs are too narrow for your butt and stores don’t sell clothing you can wear. Believe me, us fat folks aren’t having a whole lot of fun…and we certainly don’t WANT our lives to be like they are. For some of us, the ONLY pleasure in life is an occasional dish of ice cream or a warm brownie. Science doesn’t really understand how the human body becomes obese, but the evidence sure suggests that dieting & sugar substitutes contribute.

Joy that’s nonsense. Diet and exercise = weight loss. Portions are way out of whack.30 yearsago the typical restaurant portion size was 1/3 of the size of today’s. Eat until you feel satisfied then stop. And move!!
