One of the riders in a full elevator was very talkative so I thought I might be able to pull this off. I wondered aloud if the elevator would hold all of us and she piped up it sure would. I mentioned that I had a pretty big breakfast so I was doubtful. She pointed to the weight capacity and said she was pretty sure we were well under that. So I said that thats not what I meant and turned to my wife and said here, pull my finger! Her husband stifed his laughter but her son, about ten, blew snot bubbles he laughed so hard. My wife? She just shook her head. Tru story!

This plugger was in a high rise condo in Orange Beach, Alabama.. My wife, my Scottie and I were on an elevator going down to first floor. There was several people on the elevator when we got on at 10 th floor. Elevator acted strange and went past first and last floor. Door opened and we were about 4 feet lower than exit. A big guy managed get out and elevator came up to exit while rest of us were still in elevator. So we were over weight limit by this guy.

I like to squat down when an elevator stops at the ground floor or starts going up from other floors. I raise up on my tiptoes when going down. Cracked a little kid up once.

No, I’ve never done that in elevators.

….Can confirm I’ve done this sort of calculation maybe once or twice with a few other bigger folks in the elevator in our building here.

Those three? Probalby close to 900 lbs. I would tell them… “I will take the next one”…

Those signs are no joke. When I was in college, there was a horrific accident when a bunch of students tried to “stuff” an elevator. Some of those people will be in therapy the rest of their lives.

Actual conversation I heard in a crowded elevator: “What’s the capacity of this elevator?” “About 5 less than what’s in it.”
