I saw a playmate hit by a car when I was five. I had to play gin rummy with him every day after school for the six months he was in a body cast. I will never forget hearing his legs break when the car hit him.
We rode miles and miles on our bikes but we valued our bones too much to do crazy stunts, especially knowing our parents could not afford to pay for our accidents.
Oh, Evel was a phenomenon, all right, but I never made a masochist a role model. :)
