I hadn’t given it any thought, so we’ll probably never meet. And that’s OK

When you root for a team that has no interest in winning it’s kinda of difficult to do.

No, I don’t gotta. It means we’re getting closer to Red Sox fans tying up the Boston transit system on game days.

The long snow-bound winter casts a dark pall

Till one day an umpire hollers, “Play ball!”

Then skies start to brighten, blue displaces gray.

Baseball springs eternal. It’s Opening Day.

The birds begin singing. The trees start to bloom.

The umpire’s dusting home plate with his broom.

It’s a brand new beginning, a time we all cheer.

In baseball language it’s, “Happy New Year!”

OMG, one’s a North Sider, the other a South Sider. Trouble brewing.

This reminds me of the opening of a Peanuts story arc which starts with Charlie Brown waking up to a rising baseball instead of the sun. Shortly afterwards his head gets a “rash” which resembles the stitching on a baseball. One of my favorite and strangest Peanuts story arcs of all time. Anybody else remember that one?

Late February, and it’s 80° in Atlanta. It’s going to be hot at spring training, Orlando is due for 90° today.

The one constant through all the years, , has been baseball.

America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

The field, this game — it’s a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again
