Cute, in its way. But also a nice illustration of how CHILDISH it is to demand that any fix be 100% perfect.

Gas cookers are a hideous, old-fashioned way to cook. A constant temp gas flame, you change the amount of heat by applying more or less of it. Electric hobs giving different temps at different current, the only way to fly. Mine is a radiant ring, but elements of my family rave about induction hobs.

Astrophysicist, ‘I also cook’ (name that movie).

I live in an all-electric house – even my gas-log living room fireplace requires electricity to get it going. The stove in the kitchen is a glassed-topped monstrosity which can’t be regulated any better than any other electric stove – but I guess it’s safe – at least until you stupidly put a plastic dish or bowl on a recently used “burner” and it starts to melt – releasing toxic fumes into the kitchen.

The point I’m trying to make is that nothing will ever be completely safe and fool-proof – because “fools” will ALWAYS find a way to circumvent the safety measures…

I have an electric stove in my co-op apartment. When I moved in in 1999, we all had gas stoves. But a few years after I moved in, there was a gas leak discovered in the building. No one was hurt, but the co-op board voted to replace the gas stoves in the units (including mine) with electric ones. I still have the electric stove they installed and it works really well. As far as I know, there’s no national gas stove ban but I’ve heard that they might offer incentives for people to replace their gas stoves with electric or convection ones.
