There no rationality for toxic masculinity its abuse however you put it to whomever men or women or trans/nb if you see this happening you need to either confront them or call the police to to protect the victim when they get aggressive
I agree with Ted on the first two panels. Originally the term was about defining the influences that lead to toxic behavior by SOME men. But the use of the term “toxic masculinity” has shifted and is now used to define “male” behaviors that are abusive and harmful. Much bad behavior is now justified by those who do it by claiming it’s “masculine” in much the same way that religion is used to justify religious extremism. I part company with Ted when he says that masculinity itself is reviled. There may be some who believe that anyone acting “manly” is acting badly but for most people the idea of what a man should be isn’t negative. Having strength, honor, courage, compassion are all manly traits. Using “cause I’m a man” to justify dominant, abusive, harmful behavior is not manly, it’s cowardly.
In discussions on this subject, I always remind people (on both sides of the debate), that toxic masculinity is a TWO word phrase, that describes a type of masculinity.
If I say “I don’t eat moldy bread”, it doesn’t mean that all bread is bad, or even that most bread is bad… or that I hate bread. It just means that bread that has become moldy is not good to eat. In fact, the opposite is fresh bread, which I love to eat.
Same with toxic masculinity. It is opposed to healthy masculinity, which can be good for people and good for society.
The men whose behavior is called “toxic masculinity” may be victims of toxic masculinity, but they wouldn’t admit it, and they perpetrate it on the next generation.
Some fine people find any masculinity, toxic. I have no idea who gets Spiders out of their bathrooms? Probably call 911 to get a Cop to shoot it for them.
“A failure to deal with the debt limit would be catastrophic for the economy. Any serious person who has studied this knows the economic consequences would be deep, long-lasting and disastrous,” warned former Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.). . . . “The hard reality is both Social Security and Medicare are headed for insolvency,” he said. “There’s an opportunity to deal with some of these long-term challenges that are critically important to the country.“
So do we all just sit around waiting to take it up the jacksie again, or does anyone have some good ideas about how to stop it?
We know that Biden will be no help --he tried to sink SS & Medicare for FOUR YEARS RUNNING in the ’90s, so this will be a wet dream come true, for him.

It really depends on WHAT you/they think “masculine” means. And of course WHO you allow yourself to believe.

So Ted, does this mean you approve of toxic masculinity? or is it a concept you are struggling to understand?

Some people do weaponize toxic masculinity. Trump, for example.

The lefty girlymen who flock to gocomics will never have to worry about masculinity, either toxic or nontoxic.
