Does anyone have strongly positive views of the issues covered by Democracy Now?

I have to admit that I don’t because it seems to be that too many of them aren’t real issues at all, they’re just about over-entitled people who think they deserve everything.

A case in point is the current story about students thinking that the ADA requires colleges and unis to provide them medical care, perhaps even in-patient care for months, even while their medical issues prevent them from studying. Amy Goodman takes it all completely seriously, as though there should be no question about entitlement even when the individual is not studying.

That seems crazy to me, since the purpose of the ADA is to provide necessary support, as long as it’s not “too expensive” so that people can stay employed.

But at least some of these kids aren’t “employed” in learning, they’re in hospital being treated, in one case for a pre-existing mix of eating disorder, depression, and insomnia, in another for scaring her classmates with her openness about her suicidal feelings, and in a third (diagnosis unknown, apart from “mental health”) for months of inpatient care. Schools want them to drop out, get better with outside help, then come back when they’re ready to “go back to work” as students. In the third case mentioned, the young woman was surprised when involuntarily dropped as a student even though it had been months since she’d done any “studenting”, and then had more months of hospitalisation in the non-academic world.
