The billions aren’t simply to build sea walls, even though that does seem better than leaving hundreds of millions of humans low & wet. It’s also to help nations build green energy, instead of more coal plants. It’s to help countries develop their economies without continuing environmental destruction.
I wonder if Ted will ever address the fact that China is building half of the new coal power plants every year & will eventually pass the US as the biggest all time emitter of greenhouse gases, unless they drastically change course? Maybe after he does a comic about the ongoing protests against the CCP.
Excellent article in The Guardian on how developed nations’ subsidies of oil, large scale fishing, and animal based agricultural operations are contributing to climate change.
Throwing money at this problem won’t do anything. There is no holding back the sea. People in flooding areas, where ever they are, need to learn to float. Offshore colonies are a better idea. There’s an idea! Rather than cleaning up the oceans garbage patches, add more and solidify them enough to make viable floating living space.
For the Far Right and Far Left, if they don’t get everything they want, they usually settle for nothing. This is know as stupidity. or to paraphrase Blazing Saddles, “Compromise!? We don’t need no stinking compromise!!”
My Grandmother would say, “apologizing to someone for doing something wrong is meaningless unless you stop doing it.” I think that reasoning applies here.
While i agree that stopping greenhouse gas emissions in the first place is more important it would also be good to ameliorate the damage already done or will be done due to past emissions. Its not an either or situation although if you are only looking at what COP 27 just got done it might look like that. Estimates are that if 2% of gross global product was spent we could probably avert catastrophe. So pausing military spending world wide would essentially solve this problem for developed and developing countries combined.
Water vapor is a GHG however when it becomes clouds 90% of that GHG affect is reversed. With the increasing heat trapping affects adding to our climate the water cycle has not only increased it is speeding up. We need to stop producing fossil CO² and start removing it from our air and water and soon. Our goal is to reduce it back to 350 ppm. The sooner the better for all of us.

Send them condoms, either they stop having a zillion kids, the real cause of the problem, or they can use them as flotation devices.

Climate change reparations – a surefire way to make banana republic dictators and American politicians very wealthy.
