Tom won’t be written off. This is like a situation where one of the leads in a tv drama is in danger of dying. Unless he/she is leaving the series due to a contract dispute or the show-runner’s decision to go in a different direction (Valerie Harper in “Rhoda” or Charlie Sheen in “Two and a Half Men”), the actor will be saved at the last minute or will make a miraculous recovery.
Dunno how long you’ve been on this strange trip to the triangle, but if you go back to the beginning you’ll see that there’s never been any need for “plausibility.”

Who’s she gonna shoot at; Tom or Scotty? But maybe she’s going hunting from the heart?
