70 years of peace in Europe??? Is that a joke? How could you fail to notice the war in the ex-Yugoslavia republics in the 1990s? How can you write off the bombing of Serbia by NATO in 1999, to effectively redraw boundaries against international law at that time?Russian ruling elite is atrocious, Putin is a fascist, but the UK, US, Swiss banks have always seemed quite pleased to take Russian oligarchs’ money and investment. You can’t be best friends with Russian money, hail Russian strong leadership, rely on their natural resources, while putting missiles at their door. Russian sense of impunity is a consequence of European and American adulation of Russian big money.

Putin’s claim that it’s the Ukraine that is being belligerent with Russia and hurting Russian supporters in East Ukraine sounds so much like Hitler before invading Poland. None of his, or Hitler’s for that matter, is/was true but they lied to their people to gain their support.

Well.. in “some” parts of Europe, perhaps. World history is one of those subjects that evidently the American educational system glosses over.. And if Cable News don’t cover it.. it must not be happening.

It’s a minor incursion!

I am old enough to remember watching film of Russian tanks in the streets of Budapest. My mother’s mom was born in Budapest and was brought here when she was four years old. My grandma was from a large family and they had the where-with-all to host a refugee from the fighting. He told a harrowing story of tossing a molotov cocktail at a Russian tank. The family being largely first generation immigrants were appalled by the invasion of their former homeland. Being only nine at the time, I have no way to recount the mood of the nation as a whole but I’m pretty sure there was a huge majority of Americans that felt the same way my Hungarian relatives did. Contrast that with today when there is a big faction of of Americans that support Russian aggression and have no idea how dangerous a war in Europe is to our own peace and stability.

Does this have an overwhelming sense of deja vu? If anybody will look back to July, 2016, they will find this was going on even then. Some Republicans were horrified at then candidate Donald Trump’s pro-Russian stance. So, I suppose Native Americans will seek to restore their territories. And Mexico will seek to restore the American southwest. Equally logical.
