If, as some have theorized, they live in Arizona, there are a few possibilities. From Phoenix, Los Angeles is almost a straight shot west on Highway 10. If they depart from Casas Grande on Highway 8, they can get to San Diego. Highway 40 out of Flagstaff has more turns and there does not appear to be any straight route to a seaside town.
Or maybe you should forget the whole idea and just drive to the nearest KOA.

Drive straight and you will eventually hit the water if your vehicle survives crashing into all those buildings on the way.
