My mom arranged for me to read whatever I wanted to while the other kids did their lessons, if I could already pass the test they were being taught to pass. Worked out great for reading, language arts, but I didn’t learn to tell time on my own until 6th grade, and I still am glad they invented digital clocks. And, didn’t win me any popularity contests either. I think it would have been better to just read Dick and Jane with Wuthering Heights hidden inside of it.

You can be incompetent, but if you love your children and actually LISTEN to them, everything will probably work out in the end.

My parents bought a set of the Encyclopedia Americana in 1966. It was the greatest present they ever gave me.
