Maybe he should throw Manchin into the kite-eating tree. What he really needs to do is start acting like LBJ and have a closed door one-on-one meeting with Manchin where he spells out how he will spend the next 3 years making sure W Virginia doesn’t get any special projects and funding if he doesn’t back the F down and start supporting the tentpole bills of his party. Carrots can work but it helps when there is a real stick behind it. Enough of the wishy-washy “can’t we all be friends” garbage and start showing some steel in your spine. If the Voting rights bill is as big a deal as you say, then fight for the damned thing. Same with Build Back Better.
Republigoon loving manchin should be forced to live with a family that needs the child care help, for a minimum of one year WITHOUT being able to help them!
Members of Congress are generally wealthy, especially after a couple of years of insider trading. It’s hard for them to have any feeling for ordinary citizens who struggle to deal with all the headwinds involved with raising a family — inadequate incomes when measured against housing costs; health issues for families, especially kids with special needs, child care for working moms. But, when they suggest families just blow their money on drugs, or go hunting instead of working to feed their families, it shows a special kind of contempt for their constituents. Since they have premium health care benefits, easy for them to have no concern for someone in a low wage job with no benefits. We have gone a long way from a “citizen” congress representing the people in their districts, to a priviledged class serving their own or the interests of their donors.

The voting rights bill is a sham and the Build Back bill the progressives want is full of pork!
