We have friends who host a 4th of July weenie roast in their back yard. “Bring last year’s Christmas tree if you still have it”. It’s fun. And they burn FAST AND HOT by then.
When I was a teenager, we had a daylight basement that was “the boys’ floor” … sort of. We petitioned for and got permission to put up our own tree. Once. Kept it up until my mother claimed it was a fire hazard (it was). As I recall it, that was in March. Took it outside and burned it. It burned FAST AND HOT… and that was fun.
“Children” of any age seldom consider the consequences of their actions, whether sort-term or long-term.
White nationalists, racists and bigots are simply children who have never learned what being a constructive member of society actually means.
Basically, the definition of an “Adult” is simple – an adult is any person who speaks truth and accepts responsibility for their actions.
You might think that my definition of “Adult” does not reference “social responsibility” but it does – being socially responsible means never blaming others for your own problems – the “other” ceases to be a scapegoat when all society’s “problems” trace back to one’s own actions.
Example: In the Charlotteville “rally” the torchbearers were chanting, “Jews will not replace us!”
The questions they needed to confront are as follows – Why do you think Jews want to replace you?
What characteristics do you have that might call for replacing you with Jews, and conversely, what traits do Jews have that might fit them to better in your place?
Keeping in mind that being a “Jew” is a religious preference, not a racial one, what makes their religion a better societal fit than yours, or a worse one?
As an atheist, I find ALL religions basically nonsensical, and none have any great advantage over the other – though I would find the Muslim and catholic faiths particularly hard to practice because I have trouble getting on my knees – but that’s a purely mechanical objection.
I grew up in a “world” where the most facile answer to why Jews were disliked was, "they killed our "Lord"".
Seriously, the Baptists I grew up around disliked Jews because of a single act committed over two THOUSAND years ago.
Do you remember when poorly attended KKK “parades” only produced exasperated, disappointed sighs from everyone who hated racism but loved the First Amendment?
