We are in trouble. governments act when faced with a crises, especially if money must be spent and corporate profits may decline. The slow effects of climate change over decades lacks the “boom” effect" that gets attention and allows for denial and rationalization.

Maybe they should hold the Climate Summit in South Sudan or Nigeria where they can see the effects fossil fuels have on bringing electricity and clean water to poor areas, pulling people out of poverty. Let them spend a week without cell phones, computers, or all the other conveniences to better understand why reliable energy is needed at this time.

US and EU/UK have about the same emissions as 30 years ago even with the population gains. China now exceeds both combined and Brazil, India, Russia are increasing rapidly as well.

As for US, from 2016-2020 Solar energy production went up 152% and Wind passed Hydroelectric, increasing 48%. We are making progress and technology will keep getting better. No matter how the US or EU/UK cut emissions and lower our standard of living, it won’t make a statistical difference in temperature changes over the next 100 years.

At some point, in the far future, all the fossil fuels we now use will run out. What then?
