Hard to trust Scouting after their history of covering up known cases of molestation.

Surprised how this keeps going on and on and on… I’ve been aware of it ever since I was a kid in the 1970s. We had two scout troops in town, and I wasn’t interested in either on of them.

One of them had a lot of queer rumors and stories floating around about it… don’t know if they were true, but the brother of one of my friends quit that troop after one of their meetings – said the leader had made a pass at him, but he didn’t want to talk about it since in those days that stuff was kept hushed up.

The other troop was well known to be a den of delinquents – they would periodically get busted for underage drinking and vandalism during their campouts… a couple of the older kids got caught breaking into a business. But despite all that, the townspeople chose to believe the official Boy Scout image and downplay what was going on with their local troops.

In ‘65 I almost got fired from a summer camp job because I didn’t think conscientious objectors were traitors. for years I used to refer to Boy scouts as “Nixon Jugend” (“Nixon Youth”.)

Fully qualified to be Youth Minister at your local church, and they never ask questions.

A sorry excuse for a toon. My son and wife are scout leaders and grandsons are scouts. They donate a lot of their time to help these kids have opportunities to learn and grow in many areas. They are very disgusted about what occurred in the past and how the laws suits have hampered much needed funding for their troops. Why should these guys be punished and impeded for what others did. There is none of the abuses going on here now, they work hard to help the kids and follow the new guidelines, and they welcome their girls in their troop. Don’t punish the all leaders and kids now, they did not do the wrong and don’t deserve the harassment.
