The UN is a debating society. Every once in a while they do something useful, but that’s mostly a side effect of someone making a promise that they cannot then ignore to death.
The UN is a club of US/western-hating nations that has an interest in accomplishing things that hurt us while enjoying better living conditions than they could afford at home. They buy cars that they park wherever they want to. The HQ building’s security/firefighting needs are seen to by NYPD and FDNY. They pay no premium for these services even as their premises are not legally US territory. They have unlimited access to all the gee-whiz technology of modern science. Their food supplies are of the highest quality and not subject to interruption.
They don’t like us? Let them move to another city where they can enjoy all these benefits. A friendly city. Riyadh? Pyongyang? Havana? Without paying their hosts for their basic needs? With freedom of movement? Modern transportation systems? Uncensored communications systems that reliably run constantly?
The properties in NYC would generate many millions of dollars as tax-paying enterprises occupy them. Hm …
I think the commenters are forgetting one reality about the U.N. None of it’s members are really gung-ho about it interfering in a country’s affairs. After all, that precedent might come around to bite them on the ass.
