Man’s inhumanity to man is, unfortunately, a given. Man’s failures of gratitude are inexcusable, especially when the misfortune from which he’s been saved was his own fault in the first place. Mr. Nanas ought to call Child Services and cause this woman some grief.
I once faced a lawsuit from a guy whose drunken carcass I pulled out of an upended truck he tipped over after leaving a 5-cent beer night at which he’d earlier taken a swing at me after making lascivious comments to my wife.
I’m not advocating taking comics too seriously, but Kurt Vonnegut had this right: Love may fail but courtesy will prevail. He should have included gratitude for pulling your sorry bewtocks out of trouble of your own making.
