It helps when the previous administration doesn’t go out of their way to destroy the apparatus for handling a problem…see his disbanding of the NSC pandemic response team as well as dismantling our asylum system and strangling our refugee program.

Did we ever have a ‘policy’? What was it, complain about immigrants, but give them low paying jobs?

The U.S. was built on immigration. It remains the intended destination for many around the world as a way to better their lives and the U.S. benefits from them. It’s time to update immigration policies into the 21st century.

The Policy did not cause the latest ship wreck. It’s the conditions in their own countries, that our previous leadership is partly to mostly responsible for.

And the people who are making more money (Covid Relief) by not working will lose their jobs to the illegal immigrants. Then they will complain because they can’t find a job. Have a wonderful day my friends. And may the Covid avoid you and yours.

Reagan’s Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 I think was the last major immigration reform bill. Bush 43 has said that his failure to achieve immigration reform is one of his deepest disappointments. Republicans have always been pro LEGAL immigration. But the Democrats for the most part wanted to “protect” organized labor so they blocked any hope of reform. Republicans also have always disliked ILLEGAL immigration. Of course the democrats hated illegal immigration even more! Remember in 2015 when Bernie said: “Open borders? No, that’s a Koch brothers proposal,” “That’s a right-wing proposal, which says essentially there is no United States.” “It would make everybody in America poorer — you’re doing away with the concept of a nation state" Ironically, Obama was, for most of his time in office, the harshest enforcer of immigration laws in US history. Admittedly Trump was even more stringent on enforcing immigration laws. But now there is Biden with what is in effect an open boarder policy. Illegal immigration is crisis for our country. It is an open door for drugs, cartels, labor abuse, flesh trade, criminals, and potential terrorists to enter our country. It is straining our economy, adding costs to our judicial, healthcare, and education systems.

So we have common ground in opposing illegal immigration and open boarders.

We could probably take in 10 times the number of immigrants we currently take in. It would be good for the economy, and necessary if we are to compete with China over the next 50 years. I believe in the melting pot and as Americans are lucky that people want to come here to seek the same dreams that have inspired millions of others: They want a better life for their children. I just want them to do it legally and not game the system… All immigrants should have work permits and green cards so they cannot be taken advantage of. I’ve been waiting for over 20 years for congress to get off their ass and do something good.

Has any company been prosecuted for hiring non-documentmented workers?

There’s always been a problem. Note the song “Deportee” by Woodie Guthrie was written in 1948.
