National Sarcoidosis Day. National Sarcoidosis Day raises awareness about a non-contagious immune system disease. While most commonly found in the lungs, Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect any part of the body, inside or out. When it attacks the skin, it typically looks like a scaly rash or red bumps. Often, people don’t realize they have it and blame it on allergies or a simple reaction to something with which they came into contact. Sarcoidosis can affect muscles, bones, kidneys, eyes, liver, the heart or any other part of the body. When it affects the eyes, the usual symptoms are sore eyes. When internal organs or muscles are affected it can cause swelling and pain. In the lungs, it can cause a dry cough, shortness of breath, and mild chest pain.Anyone can get Sarcoidosis, but it typically attacks people between the ages of 20 and 40. In about half of the cases, Sarcoidosis goes away without treatment. In more severe cases, for which there is no cure, the symptoms may last for years and cause organ damage. While scientists don’t fully understand Sarcoidosis yet, research continues to be done on it in the hopes of finding the cause and a cure.
A really surprising and pleasant thing happened at work yesterday. As a way of thanking associates for all we do, Walmart provided a free take home meal for everybody. When I first saw the notice about the free meal, I imagined a sack lunch of some sort. But what we got was two 12 inch frozen pizzas (retailing for around $7 each) and a free 12 can pack of pop, any kind we wanted. I chose A&W root beer. We also each got a thank you card signed by all the managers. This free meal was offered for Thursday and Friday, so anyone who didn’t get it yesterday can still get it today.
This came at a great time, since I’ve recently been craving some root beer and I was going to buy some in a couple days from now. And while I’m not much of a pizza person, my brother, Paul, loves pizza. He probably never tried this “Lotsa Matza” kind, but maybe he’ll like it. He is planning on coming to my place in June and spending a few days fixing up things in my house. My front room where the old roof leaked need the ceiling to be fixed and part of the floor fixed. Paul has worked with Habitat For Humanity for years so he knows a lot about doing these things. I was wondering what I should give him to eat while he’s here. Now I have a solution for a couple meals at least. He can have the pizza! He can have some root beer too, if he wants some.
I phoned the vets Thursday afternoon enquiring after Misty’s CT scan results as it’s been a week since the scan. They haven’t received them back yet, and I was told that they are actually taking eight working days and not the five I was told last week. As Monday is a Bank Holiday here in the UK, they might be available on Tuesday. It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing I can do about it.
My Brother-In-Law has three cats, and last evening I got a frantic video call to say that the eldest cat, Monty, was laying on the floor, on his side, with his tongue out, panting. My response was to tell my BIL to get him down the vet ASAP as it looked like Monty was in the process of heart failure (my late cat Southwold had suffered the same thing). Monty is 19, and a former homless cat who my late sister found and adopted. My BIL got Monty down the vet, and after treatment for heart attack/heart failure, and a battery of blood tests, looks like he might be OK. He survived the night, and the vet is confident that he can go home this evening. He’s to be kept indoor, warm, and with no excitement. Fingers crossed that Monty continues to recover, as one of the other cats Squibbs depends on him.
That mouse really have know better than to provoke Lily. That is one cat you do NOT mess with! On another note, saw five robins, a rabbit, and a towhee while out walking today.

A Misty Update, and a Monty Emergency.
I phoned the vets Thursday afternoon enquiring after Misty’s CT scan results as it’s been a week since the scan. They haven’t received them back yet, and I was told that they are actually taking eight working days and not the five I was told last week. As Monday is a Bank Holiday here in the UK, they might be available on Tuesday. It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing I can do about it.
