The new Georgia laws are “Jim Crow”, but they’re not “ignorant”. They know exactly what they’re doing and who they are targeting with those laws.
It’s disgusting and un-American, but not ignorant. The ignorance comes in when people honestly believe that the laws have nothing to do with Jim Crow and everything to do with “election integrity”.
Does it ever occur to anyone that it might be a good idea that only actual citizens vote actually only once in our elections? And that it takes some rules to make sure that’s what happens? While it’s true that in the past there have been rules that put undue burdens on voters, and especially minority voters, could someone perhaps show what it is about Georgia’s law that does so? And I’m not sure that sports cartoonists are actually the ones who know best about this.

I am opposed to any measure that would make it more difficult for citizens to vote. That said…
97% of eligible Georgie voters have either a driver’s license or a valid state-issued ID to use as a voter ID, according the state’s attorney general. The remaining three percent are able to show proof of eligibility in several ways, including the use of the last four digits of their SSN.
Eliminating the signature requirement for mail-in ballots will result in fewer votes being rejected because of poor matches to those on file (this happened to over 1,000 ballots cast in the November 2020 election), not to mentioned ballots that were missing a signature. In the latter cases, this caused further churn by forcing voters to resubmit their votes. Again, voters will only need to enter their driver’s license number, their state-issued ID number, or the last four digits of their SSN.
Furthermore, the law expanded the number of days for early voting, including the option for Sunday voting, which gives more opportunity for its citizens to vote. Contrary to Biden’s claim, which he has repeated ad nauseum, it does not end voting hours early either on early voting days or an official election day (this claim has been disproved by the Washington Post).
So all this being said, there is nothing being done by this law that takes away voting rights, and claims otherwise have prove false again and again. To liken it to “Jim Crow” laws is a stretch and a desperate attempt by its opponents to discrete common sense voting laws.
The original plan was to have the game in a city that has a significant racial minority population, a game that would have pumped tens of millions into the local economy.
The new plan is to go to a state that’s mostly Caucasian.
