It isn’t so much that Google’s a hard target. It’s that Google’s so rich that it’s hard for politicians (and those they direct) to WANT to disrupt them. Monopolies (or oligopolies) are the natural result of unrestricted free enterprise. Up until 30 years ago or so, the USA had managed to have regulations that prevented businesses from collecting that much power (see also the dismemberment of Bell Telephone), but our vigilance lapsed briefly, and we now have nearly no ability to regulate … because no DESIRE to regulate, because “they have all the money, and money is power”. Approximately. I sincerely doubt that this generation of politicians will be able to do anything, certainly neither Trump/McConnell et al nor Biden et al. But Bernie Sanders, Harris, maybe, and AOC certainly… and several others less well known, may be able to get things back on course. I hope.
