The “Human Rights for Mother Earth” concept is actually very interesting to me, but before we get there we might want to pay more attention to the “Human Rights for Unborn Humans” issue to first set the groundwork to extending Human Rights for Trees.
Perhaps today’s cartoon is Lisa’s way of reminding us of the folks who slapped “No Blood for Oil!” bumper stickers on the backs of their huge SUV’s during the Iraq War (although I haven’t seen any “No Blood for… What?” bumper stickers during our Libyan adventures).
Libya is an OPEC member and holds the largest proven oil reserves in Africa, so the bummer stickers should say no blood for oil,…
Good thing we don’t have any boots on the ground yet.
I think it’s hilarious that that conservatives thing anything about the environment is a ‘grab for power’ last time I checked I like breathing clean air that won’t give me cancer or water that won’t poison me or blow me up.
Vladimir Lenin was apparently against the Socialists. Interesting historical fact…there was already a “people’s” revolution in Russia, then he overthrew THAT revolution!

As to the comic, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a representative from Ma Earth in the UN someday.
Jade, valid point. But the difference is that as when “family values” Republicans are discovered cheating on their wives, and multi-millionaire environmentalist Democrat crusaders like Gore are discovered flying on private jets and wasting far more than their share of carbon-footprint resources on themselves. It’s the irony of the short-circuiting of one’s professed values that we find interesting in both kinds of stories.
Do you see a “theocratic power grab” by those on the right as something new? That’s always been the core of their base.
I do not know how long the human race will endure. We could wipe out ourselves in 10 minutes, but I doubt it. We have existed (with language) for less than 100,000 years. (Nobody knows exactly when language was invented; that’s just my guess.) I have heard that a species generally lasts a few million years, so we should have a substantial time yet to go. I intend to leave our descendants better off than I find myself. That is the essence of Liberalism. Other people intend to get as much for themselves from the current world as possible. That is the essence of Conservatism.

Making paper from trees happened centuries ago, too, though its use was much more limited.

Paper comes from managed forests. All the relatives would be dead too!

“The real message is give Dim/Libs more power to control sheeple. They care about power not the planet.”
For the sake of argument, that’d be any different than the theocratic power grap by Republican/Conservatives now?Nemesys about 13 years ago

When our species is toast, by our own actions and inaction, she will have the last laugh.
