The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh” which means “apartness, sacredness,” or “separateness” showing that God is altogether holy, sacred, set apart or separate from His creation.

The Greek word used for holy or holiness is “hagios” and means much the same thing that the Old Testament word “godesh” means, which is “pure, morally blameless” or “set apart” as in set apart for holy use, which is what the saints of God have been called to.

As for us in the USA, we have been on an unholy slippery slope for almost 7 decades. Start with the Johnson Amendment, continue on to the liberal Supreme court ruling that prayer, bible reading and Bible studies in public schools are unconstitutional, slip down the slope to Roe vs Wade and the ready availability of abortion, concentrate on everyone’s individual rights rather than sacrificing for the common good. Set up your own idols, values and heroes to replace the ones in Exodus 20 and you wind up hearing G-d’s voice saying to Jeremiah 3:13; “Only acknowledge your guilt, that you have committed crimes against ADONAI your G-d, that you were promiscuous with strangers under every green tree, and that you paid no attention to My voice,” …“return backsliding children,” says ADONAI, “for I am your master…”
