I used to have a checklist when I heard the baby cry: food, thirsty, dirty diaper, sick, lonely. After I checked off the first four and held the baby for about 30 minutes, I’d put it back in its bed and leave. That was for the first child. For the second child I was 10 years older and would just put the baby in bed with my wife and I and go to sleep. The baby would go to sleep as well.

I never understood how thatababy acts more like a child in some aspects and more like a baby in other aspects.
